Telecommunications / Computer Technician
BICSI / 3M Fiber Optic / A+ Cert. Prep.

This course is designed for individuals who want to enter the Telecommunications/Computer Industry in the area of technology for troubleshooting, repair and installation of Data/Voice solution. Students will learn the technology for setup and installation of transmitting voice, video and other data over existing copper/fiber lines. Students will also be able to troubleshoot and repair IBM PC compatible computers. At the end to the curriculum, students will be prepared to take the BICSI Certified Level I Exam, ACES International Fiber Optic Exam and the A+ Computer Technician Certification Exam.

Thirteen-week format: Monday - Friday (256 Hrs.)

Module One 
Six Weeks - 120 Hours

BICSI Level I Installation Tech / 3M Fiber Optic Prep.
Students will gain extensive hands-on training as a Telecommunications Structured Cabling Installation Technician. The training will range from testing, troubleshooting, connecting and repair of different types of cabling ranging from, CAT-3, 5, 5E, 6, 7, Single and Multimode Fiber Optic At the end of this module, students will be prepared to take the BICSI Level I Certification and ACES International Fiber Optic Exams.

  Module Two 
Six Weeks - 120 Hours

Computer Technology / A+ Certification Prep.
Students are introduced to basic Personal Computer and microcomputer hardware and operating systems including hardware basics, computer troubleshooting, repairing and upgrading. MS DOS basics, and MS Windows software. Students gain hands-on experience installing, configuring and upgrading hardware, peripherals and operating systems in a lab environment. At the end of this module, students will be prepared to take the A+ Certification exam.

  Module Three 
One Week - 20 Hours

Job Prep and Interviewing Skills
Students will be trained in the area of job seeking skills. The course will cover areas with students in interviewing skills, dress for success, resume and cover letters, phone skills and follow up. Students will be required to take this course in order to graduate. Role playing is required.
